Mickey, Minnie Mouse Wood/Steel Sled
acquired:March 2006
circa:1935featured: Rare Recent Acquisitions
The S.L. Allen Co. of Philadelphia produced character sleds for Disney from 1935 until 1940. This impressive Mickey and Minnie sled was introduced in 1935 and is complete with all the original parts. The wood and steel sled measures 30" long, 12" wide and 6" high. The handle bars are 18-1/4" wide. Although the wood has some discoloration and wear, there are no cracks or repaired areas. The Mickey and Minnie decal has some wear, but is still intact. The steel runners and supports have discoloration and paint chipping, but there are no cracks or breaks. After 70 years much of the red paint is missing from the bottom of the runners. The black paint has a mottled effect. There is a 3" sliver of wood missing from above the word "Mickey" on the handle bars. The two holes were used to pull the sled via a rope, but the rope was never shown in any of the advertisements for the sled. Hard to find Disney collectible in good condition.
