Mickey Mouse Emerson Early Pressed Wood Radio
acquired:April 2005
circa:1930'sfeatured: Rare Recent Acquisitions
The Emerson Radio and Phonograph Corp. produced this hard-to-find brown pressed wood Mickey Mouse radio from 1933 until 1939. The radio, measuring 7-1/4" by 7-1/4" by 5-1/4", has sculpted images of Mickey playing the piano, tuba, flute and bass fiddle on four sides. The radio works perfectly, starting almost immediately, and picked up seven stations recently with good volume quality. There is almost no wear on the wooden relief images of Mickey. The bottom and back wood panels are original, as is the back metal Emerson copyright plate with the serial number. There are small losses of surface wood on the back panel in the corners. It has part of the original aerial connecting to additional footage. One or two tubes may have been replaced and it doesn't look like the original cord. The front metal plate and the two knobs are faithful reproductions. The radio seems to be missing the "on-off" and "dialing" pieces that were behind the knobs and there is slight wear in that area. The brown fabric on the front is original and mint. Difficult to find this radio in working condition and with undamaged wood on Mickey's musical images.
